I took this picture
while teaching high school in Kenya, 1982-84. Years
later, after coming to New Orleans, I read about the
murder of this rhino and some others with him,
supposedly protected by 24-hour armed guard. He was
killed for his horn and hooves, used in Yemen for knife
handles and in China for traditional medicine.
